questions.

i'm a music student at asu. jazz studies: drumset.
i would like to record drums and vocals onto my powerbook using garageband.
a few questions:
1) how do i record them on seperate tracks?
2) what interface do i need to get to use my vocal mic with the powerbook?
3)is the sound quality decent with garage band?

thanks so much:)

yes the sound quality is decent, but iv never done more than one track at a time, there should be support for that topic specifically though, thats one of its big features. probably just a matter of assingning the right inputs to each track. try the help file or the apple garageband support site.

as far as the interface, i tried a few and the best one i found that was reasonable was the m audio audiophile. most everything they make is cheap and plastic, this one has a metally casing, its firewire, and its very clean. my friend at the music store hooked me up for 175 ! you might also want a little mixer of some sort, maybe behringer. or for like 600 you can get a mackie onyx, its a firewire mixing board, badass ! thats two birds with one stone. have a conversation with someone knowledgable at the music store and see if you can plug your mic directly into the firewire audiophile. if not, youll need a little mixer, the little behringer is like 50 bux. definitely use the firewire, its fast and therefore cleaner than usb.

iv had some really good results with garageband.
i dont exactly write jazz, but in all actuality, its built on the same engine as logic.
it is a priceless software i think. fast and fun too !
